These stamps commemorate the visits of pope John Paul II to his homeland Poland. The decorative labels to the left and right of the stamps show the years and the place of the visits and the words he expressed to the people there between the years 1979 and 2002.
There are four stamps on each miniature sheet. From top to bottom, the following eight visits are displayed:
First visit from 2 to 10 June 1979: Warszawa (Warsaw), Gniezno, Częstochowa, Kraków (Cracow), Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, Wadowice (his birthplace), Oświęcim-Brzezinka (Auschwitz-Birkenau) and Nowy Targ.
Second visit from 16 to 23 June 1983: Warszawa (Warsaw), Niepokalanów, Częstochowa, Poznań, Katowice, Wrocław, Góra Świętej Anny (in the Holy Cross mountains near Kielce) and Kraków (Cracow).
Third visit from 8 to 14 June 1987: Warszawa (Warsaw), Lublin, Majdanek, Tarnów, Kraków (Cracow), Szczecin, Gdynia, Gdańsk, Częstochowa and Łódź.
Fourth visit from 1 to 9 June 1991: Koszalin, Rzesów, Przemyśł, Lubaczów. Kielce, Radom, Łomża, Białystok, Olsztyn, Włocławek, Płock and Warszawa (Warsaw).
Fifth visit from 13 to 16 August 1991: Kraków (Cracow), Wadowice (his birthplace) and Częstochowa.
Sixth visit from 31 May to 10 June 1997: Wrocław, Legnica, Gorzów Wielkopolski, Gniezno, Poznań, Kalisz, Częstochowa, Zakopane, Ludźmierz, Kraków (Cracow), Dukla and Krosno.
Seventh visit from 5 to 17 June 1999: Gdańsk, Sopott, Pelplin, Elbląg, Licheń, Bydgoszcz, Toruń, Ełk, Wigry, Siedlce, Drohiczyn, Warszawa, Sandomierz, Zamość, Radzymin, Łowicz, Sosnowiec, Kraków, Stary Sącz, Wadowice, Gliwice and Częstochowa.
Eighth visit from 16 to 19 August 2002: Kraków, Kraków-Łagiewniki and Kalwaria Zebrzydowska.
